The Kenyan is the world’s greatest marathoner. He’s the two-time Olympic marathon champion. The former holder of the marathon world record and the second-fastest person to officially run a marathon. He also made history by breaking the two-hour marathon barrier when he ran 1:59:40 in the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in 2019.
“You have the chance to witness a once-in-a-lifetime athlete right here in Sydney,” announced the race organisers. “This will be a defining moment in Australian sporting history, and we want you there to soak in every second of it!”
“I can’t wait to run in the beautiful city of Sydney,” said Kipchoge.
The 2025 Sydney Marathon takes place on Sunday 31 August and Eliud Kipchoge will be one of 35,000 runners making history at Sydney’s inaugural Abbott World Marathon Major.
Sydney will be Kipchoge’s second marathon of 2025. He’s also due to run in the London Marathon which has one of the greatest elite field’s in marathon history. The only Marathon Major he will be missing after finishing Sydney will be New York City. That race is nine weeks after Sydney. Could Kipchoge run three marathons in a year?
