Bakery’s sprint finish to supply edible medals to Scottish race
A medal gets placed around your neck as you hobble past the finish line, and no matter how tired you are, you’re always ready for that post-race photo, pretending to take a bite out of your new silverware. At the 2024 Inverness Half Marathon and 5K, that bite was a lot tastier than normal.
The shipment of medals and finisher t-shirts for the Inverness race was detoured and delayed because of militant attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea, meaning they didn’t arrive in time.
Thankfully, local bakery Harry Gow was able to make over 4,000 commemorative biscuits (double-layered and iced, if you’re wondering) in the same design as the medal, so every finisher was able to (literally!) enjoy the sweet taste of their successful run.
When the medals and finisher t-shirts do make it to Inverness, they’ll by mailed out to all participants.
If you finished a race and the medals hadn’t arrived, then what would you like to be handed instead?
