Boston Marathon 2025 Medal Reveal And Celebration Jacket

The 2025 Boston Marathon medal has been revealed.

It comes after 2024’s medal was widely criticised.

“This is without a doubt the ugliest BM medal ever. I mean the sponsor on the front is shameless and disgusting but in general the flat and lazy design looks so cheap compared to the 3D designs from the previous years,” commented one person, which summed up the general opinion of runners on this Reddit forum

Boston medals have always had the iconic feature of the unicorn, often with cut outs in the design, and a full focus on the Boston Marathon and Boston Athletic Association. That changed in 2024 and the main criticism was that the race’s headline sponsor, the Bank of America, featured prominently – it was the first time that a sponsor featured on the medal. It’s long been a smaller medal compared to other Marathon Major medals, but in 2024 it felt less… special.

Now the 2025 Boston Marathon medal has been revealed and it’s… beautiful!

Raised details on a golden unicorn as a cutout centrepiece, an engraved perimeter as a full circle, and a subtle Bank of America logo. The striking simplicity of the silver and blue on the outside, makes the shiny gold unicorn stand out even more, while the classic blue and yellow ribbon remains. Just look at it!

The 2025 medal is being favourably compared to 2021’s medal, plus check out this photo of all the Boston Marathon medals from 1982 t0 2017. There’s a few which look familiar to 2025’s medal. But there’s one big change – Spike the unicorn is now facing the other direction (more on that below).

THE 2025 BOSTON MARATHON CELEBRATION JACKET

The 2025 ‘Own The Run’ Boston Marathon celebration jacket has also been revealed.

This year’s colour is ‘lucid blue’ in both a men’s and women’s fit.

The $120 jacket is available from adidas.com and can be found in several places in Boston on marathon weekend. Many runners pick up the jacket as a rite of passage for taking part in Boston, and you can find it at the marathon expo and also at other stores around the city.

What do you think about the 2025 jacket?
