Eilish McColgan will not start London Marathon
Eilish McColgan wait to start the London Marathon will have to wait for another year as she pulls out of the race just 48 hours before the starting gun was due to go off. She puts it down to a few factors but the nail in the DNS (Did Not Start) decision was down to a knee injury that she just couldn’t shake.
The Scottish athlete had delayed travelling down to London and cancelled her media appearances sending alarm bells ringing so the announcement is not a huge surprise to those who have been following as avidly as we have here at TRC but it is a huge disappointment nonetheless.
But she has assured her fans that this isn’t a more concerning injury, saying; “It’s nothing serious but I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks – as much as I love everything about this race – because I don’t want to put my long-term career in danger.”
She also had to pull out of last year’s London due to ‘unexpected issues’ with her blood sugar levels so the anticipation for her running the Six Star marathon will have been a few years in the making come 2024.
Many were excited to see her following in her mother’s footsteps in taking on the race and dreamed of matching her mum’s result in winning the race just as she did back in 1996. There had also been exciting chat about whether she could beat Paula Radcliffe’s record in the marathon distance as she had done in the 10km back in March.
