USA’s Gabby Thomas is the new women’s Olympic 200m champion after cruising to victory in Paris in 21.83, with Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred adding silver following her 100m gold

It was a photo finish between four women to determine third, with USA’s Brittany Brown winning bronze, just two-hundredths of a second ahead of GB’s Dina Asher-Smith. Her teammate Daryll Neita was one-hundredth of a second behind in an incredibly close finish.

Thomas was the favourite going into the race, having run the fastest time in the world this year, and she proved that she’s the best at the biggest race in the world.

ELSEWHERE TODAY…

Cole Hocker won a stunning gold in the men’s 1500m with GB’s Josh Kerr in second and USA’s Yared Nuguse in third. Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen finished fourth.

Winfred Yavi won gold for Bahrain in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, running a new Olympic record of 8:52.76, with Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai winning silver and Kenya’s Faith Cherotich winning gold. Team GB’s Elizabeth Bird finished seventh.

GB’s Laura Muir and Gemma Bell both comfortably progressed in the women’s 1500m. After the drama in the 5000m last night, Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay won her 1500m heat and moves into the semi finals.

The two favourites in the women’s 400m hurdles both made the final: USA’s Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and the Netherlands’ Femke Bol. And GB’s Victoria Ohuruogu is into the women’s 400m semi final.

Coming up tomorrow we’ve got the men’s 400m final, featuring GB’s Matthew Hudson-Smith who progressed from his semi final earlier today, and it’s the final of the men’s 3000m steeplechase. There are also lots of semi finals for us to enjoy with the men’s 110m hurdles, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s 200m and the women’s 400m. See you there!

Here’s the full running schedule of events to come this week at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
