What Are The SuperHalfs?
Six European half marathons have come together to form the SuperHalfs.
They take place in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia, and if you complete all six races within a five-year period you can collect a special SuperMedal.
Here’s all you need to know about the SuperHalfs.
What Are The SuperHalfs?
All fast (if you want to go fast) and all scenic (if you want to see the sights), these are six of the best half marathon races in Europe.
The SuperHalfs officially launched in 2022 as a five-city series, with Berlin added in 2024. Runners who complete all six races within a five-year period, which begins the day of their first race, will get a SuperMedal.
To work towards the SuperMedal, you sign up for a SuperPassport via the SuperHalfs website, enter your SuperPassport number when you sign up for each race, and get your medal at the end of your sixth half marathon. You can run them in any order you like.
And don’t worry if you’ve already run some before registering for a SuperPassport as you can claim those results and have them added to your account.
Here are the SuperHalfs.
Lisbon Half Marathon
Next race: 9th March 2025
This race is the most popular running event in Portugal with over 35,000 people taking part, where they all get to experience a sensational start to the race which begins on the 25 de April Bridge. That means heading to Almada, over the Tagus river, and then running back into Lisbon over the red suspension bridge, passing parallel to the water for most of the race. It’s a great running experience.
In 2021, Jacob Kiplimo set the half marathon world record on this course.
Prague Half Marathon
Next race: 5th April 2025
Like the best big city half marathons, this gives you the perfect opportunity for sightseeing while you run. Much of the route passes alongside the Vltava River, and you’ll cross it over the Charles Bridge while also passing Prague Castle and the National Theatre. There’s a lot of support on the course for the 15,000 runners.
Berlin Half Marathon
Next race: 6th April 2025
With the same organisers as the Berlin Marathon, and with the same famous finish line just past the Brandenburg Gate, this is an opportunity to run through that iconic landmark without being quite as exhausted as you would be in a marathon. The route is great, it’s very well organised, and there are supportive crowds.
If you fancy a real challenge, then how about the Prague-Berlin double? Finish the Prague race at lunchtime, head to the train station, and it’s around 4.5 hours to Berlin!
Copenhagen Half Marathon
Next race: 14th September 2025
One of the most popular half marathons in Europe (in other words: it sells out quickly!), the Copenhagen Half is a 21km party around the streets of Denmark’s capital. With 25,000 people taking part, and music and entertainment set up all around the city, runners pass through eclectic districts on the way to a finish on leafy Øster Allé.
It’s not just a fun run, and it’s a fast course: two of the top 10 men’s times have been run here.
Cardiff Half Marathon
Next race: 5th October 2025
The largest mass participation event in Wales, and one of the biggest half marathons in Europe with over 27,500 runners, the Cardiff Half passes Cardiff Castle, the Principality Stadium, and then crosses the barrage over Cardiff Bay, giving a route with a mix of city and sea, with history and modern sports venues.
Valencia Half Marathon
Next race: 27th October 2024
Runners go to Valencia to run fast. They go there for the marathon in December, and a few weeks earlier for the half, which passes a lot of notable city landmarks on a well-supported city loop that combines the historic old town and the handsome harbour. How fast is the course? Well, 12 of the top 20 fastest men’s half marathon times (including six of the top seven), and the two fastest women’s times, have been run in Valencia.
