Grand Slam Track is an exciting new series of four track racing meets with many of the world’s best runners competing to win some of the biggest prize money in track and field.

Here’s what you need to know about Grand Slam Track

WHAT EVENTS ARE IN GRAND SLAM TRACK?

There are the six Race Groups. Each runner is signed up to a Race Group and will run both distances in that group.

  • Short Sprints: 100m & 200m
  • Long Sprints: 200m & 400m
  • Short Hurdles: 100m/110m Hurdles & 100m Flat
  • Long Hurdles: 400m Hurdles & 400m Flat
  • Short Distance: 800m & 1500m
  • Long Distance: 3000m & 5000m

HOW DOES GRAND SLAM TRACK WORK?

  • There are four Grand Slam Track meets. The first is in Kingston, Jamaica, then they move to Miami, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. They take place over three days (Friday to Sunday).
  • There are six Race Groups for both men and women, with each Race Group featuring two race distances. Every runner is assigned to a group and will run both races in their group.
  • There are 48 Racers signed up to take part in all four Slams (four men and four women for each Race Group) and then 48 Challengers are selected for each Slam based on their form and ongoing rivalries.
  • It has a season prize pool of $12.6m for the runners, with every runner claiming prize money at every Slam, plus a fee to take part in the event. The winner of each Race Group earns $100,000 at each Slam.
  • Unlike other track and field meets, at Grand Slam Track only one race takes place at a time, so the sole focus for the audience in the stadium and viewers at home is on those runners and their event, with considerable time given to the race build up and post-run analysis.

HOW DOES SCORING WORK IN GRAND SLAM TRACK?

  • Runners take part in both races in their Race Group (so Short Sprinters run 100m and 200m).
  • Each competitor scores points based on their finish from 1st to 8th.
  • The competitor with the highest total points from their combined score from both races is the winner of their Race Group.
  • At the end of the season, after the four Slams, the male and female Racer with the highest overall points is crowned Racer of the Year.
  • If a tie-breaker is needed then it’s done on the fastest combined time from both events.

Points distribution in Grand Slam Track is:

  • 1st – 12
  • 2nd – 8
  • 3rd – 6
  • 4th – 5
  • 5th – 4
  • 6th – 3
  • 7th – 2
  • 8th – 1
