Mo’s Month in Running – August ’23

BY: Mo
25 September 2023

I’m getting closer and closer to race day. I’m only two weeks out from the Copenhagen Half Marathon and seeing if I can take on my hardest running challenge yet. The training has ramped up even more and the intensity is as high as can be.

I am looking forward to tapering and seeing how my legs hold up once they’ve got a proper chance to rest – but for now, nailing the nutrition, recovery and paces has taken up the bulk of my mental capacity.

I’ve found myself dipping into half marathon pace or quicker a lot in this training block, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed not having to do extra long runs. The majority of my runs have been done within an hour, which I can’t say was the same during marathon training.

The pace at which I’m due to run the half marathon worries me a little, as it’s considerably faster than anything I’ve run before for the distance. But I’m trusting that the training and my body will hold up on race day.

My biggest learnings from August:

  • Training is hard.
  • Training is fun.
  • Aiming for a personal best means that you may at times feel incompetent when you’re struggling to complete your sessions. But that doesn’t make you weak – it means the sessions are challenging. Which they should be.
